[Tracking-IANA] Re: FW: (cctld-za) Nameserver changes for .za (South Africa) #RM02-0051 (#2)

Hi

Could you advise of the progress with my request for an additional NS
record for the ZA ccTLD?

I also need a response to my query about the need for ICANN to do AXFRs
of the ZA zonefile.

Thanks
Mike

Got the one to <mlawrie@apies.frd.ac.za> as well. The email to
uninet@apies.frd.ac.za is likely to bounce, that address no longer
exists.

By way of background, the Foundation for Research Development became
the National Research Foundation on 1 April 1999, by an Act of
Parliament. The Uninet Project of the FRD/NRF closed 13 months ago, I
was the manager thereof and one of the staff acted as technical
contact for ZA, picking up email from the role account of
<uninet@apies.frd.ac.za>. I'm now on pension but retained on contract
by the NRF. Hence the changes in the contact info. I expect that there
will be changes to the contact info in the not too distant future, but
will deal with them when the time comes. For the mean time, the changes
reflect as best I can the change of name of the FRD->NRF and the
closure of Uninet. Given the need to add another secondary, in order to
track down a DNS problem, I did not want to be accused of providing
known obsolete info in the template.

I've left the primary of ZA as apies.FRD.ac.za due to the tricky
requirements of changing any nameservers's name, but my bosses insist
that my email address change to mlawrie@apies.NRF.ac.za. Both addresses
reach me, but the publicised address is the NRF one.

There is no point in having the answer to 5a as
> 5a. NIC Handle (if known)...........: UO55-ORG

because the uninet@apies.frd.ac.za address is no longer valid, and I
don't have anyone to hand who could possibly deal with any technical
issues of administering the ZA namespace. This will change in the not
too distant future, but that is how it is for now. The best info for 5a
is "ML70".

Can you handle the updating of ML70 whois info from what I've sent you,
or must I use some other template?

I've opened up the ZA zonefile for axfrs to 192.0.32.0/20 from
apies.frd.ac.za, but would like to know why you have requested this. I
don't know of any right that IANA has to access this information, so
I've acted in a spirit of "nothing to hide" and as an interim
arrangement pending your response. I don't have control of the
secondaries, and will need further justification from yourselves before
I approach them. I'm sure that you understand my situation in this
regard.

Regards
Mike
